Marquise Gauntlets

As Ellen said, I have had a pattern published at elann!

Marquise gauntlet

I designed these gauntlets last fall with elann’s Peruvian Highland Wool.  In fact, I spent the first day of school (the day of all the useless teachers’ meetings) drawing and designing the cable pattern.  I was supposed to be listening to people talk about “Professional Learning Communities.”  I think, on the whole, that I got more out of the day than most people did.

The gauntlets are pretty cool, if I do say so myself, and most everyone who sees them wants a pair, including Harvey.  (I do have a pair in the works for him, they just need to be finished.)  Well, except men, that is, who in general just don’t seem to get the point.  Oh, well.  You can’t please everyone all the time.

So, if you’d like a pair yourself, just jet on over to elann and print out the pattern.

P.S.  Although these really are great in elann’s wool, and it does come in almost any color your heart might desire, and it’s really inexpensive, I do have to admit to you that this pattern is also a great way to use some of your stash.  It only uses about 300 yards of wool, and if you don’t have that much, you can shorten them.  And dare I say that they would make perfect Christmas gifts?

Very pretty. And I love the photo on Elan.

May I ask – what kind of piano do you have?

The gaunlets are lovely! As a newbie I hadn’t seen a pattern for gauntlets without fingers – I love the loop over the finger! I will be knitting these up sometime down the road. I have a large stash that must contain the perfect yarn!

Hi, I was searching for cable patterns and came upon this page. The Elann page doesn’t seem to load for me but I really love the looks of these. Is there anyway I could get the pattern? Was the page moved or is it just my computer? Thanks, Shell

    Sarah,
I happened to come upon your Marquise pattern and blog the other day when I was looking around for ideas for wristers and fingerless gloves, etc. I whipped up a pair just in time to wear them today, new year’s day, and I got several compliments on them already. I really love how they turned out, in some “Blue Heaven” Lambs Pride Superwash that had been aging in my stash for years. : ) I made them a few inches longer so I can be warm nearly to my shoulders. My apartment is freezing and my hands are always cold, so these are a very practical item for me, and they work well with a lot of my clothes.
And I think I made a minor improvement: I like I-cord much more than crochet chain, and I think it’s more stable, too. Plus, it’s knitting, and I’m a knitter — I never really like shifting to crochet. So I did the first in crochet and the second in I-cord, liked the I-cord much better, and then redid the first one.
Thank you very much for a great pattern. I am already planning to make another pair soon as a gift.
PS: To anyone planning to make these, I used only @ 200 yards of yarn (Lamb’s Pride Superwash), and I knit mine about two inches longer. I worked on US size 5s.
