Notes from the ice storm
Last week we here in the Midwest had our own bad storm, but instead of snow, what we got was ice. It was bad, bad, bad.
Here are my pictures of the aftermath.
This gives you a good idea of the amount of ice that was on every branch and twig.
The ice weighing down the trees.
The half of a tree that came down on my roof.
                                    A side view.
The tree split right at the base.
The pine tree in my side yard weighted down by ice.
The elm in my back yard.
I wish you all a wonderful holiday season, full of joy and happiness and free from ice.

I know from growing up in Missouri and living there later, that the ice storms are a real PITA, but isn’t everything so pretty for a few days!? Do you remember the big ice storm in the winter of ’90/91? We were living at Lake of the Ozarks and got 9 INCHES of ice overnight. We (and everyone, including the mailman) was housebound for 11 days straight. I hope yours doesn’t last nearly that long!
Wishing you happy holidays and a healthy new year!

Well, we have a lot of snow, but, um…you win.
Our roof is leaking a bit from the snow and ice up there (that’s a whole other story), but a tree on the roof…well, we ain’t got that!
Merry, merry Christmas to you and Harvey!

Ice storms sure are difficult to deal with; however beautiful they may be. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that the roof damage is minimal and your electric either stays on or comes back on shortly!

oh my – was there much damage to your roof?

Oh goodness, Sarah! We missed most of it here, but a friend of mine in Jefferson City was without power for about five days. I hope, hope, hope, that the tree on your roof didn’t cause as much damage as it looks like it might!

This is one of those things that doesn’t happen much around my part of the world – our snow sublimates in the sky because it’s so cold and dry.
Looks like that poor ol’ tree needs a pruning. The section going out to the right from the base of your trunk could break off later and do the same thing as the left side! Anything coming out at a steep angle like that could have dire consequences, as I have learned in the past. Hope your roof’s still in one piece.

Yeah we used to get ice storms when I lived in AL and they are rough. We were without power in one storm for 3 whole days. We were starting to get kind of cold in the house and wondered where we going to sleep on the 4th day, but they came around with a truck and got us turned back on. Did they tree cause any damage to the roof? I certainly hope not.

Okay at this point we are all wondering if two of you and your families have survived Christmas and New Years.

Me too…we haven’t heard from either of you for awhile.
